Description:

The DTVP-2 is a comprehensive battery of eight subtests that measure different but interrelated visual perceptual and visual-motor abilities; the subtests include Eye-Hand Coordination, Copying, Spatial Relations, Position in Space, Figure-Ground, Visual Closure, Visual-Motor Speed, and Form Constancy. The battery can be used to document the presence and degree of visual perceptual or visual-motor difficulties in individual children, identify candidates for referral, verify the effectiveness of school intervention programs, and serve as a research tool.

The DTVP-2 is the most recent revision of Marianne Frostig's popular Developmental Test of Visual Perception (DTVP), which has been administered to more than 6 million children. The revised DTVP-2 has been improved in many ways.

The reliability for the subtests is increased
Ample evidence of content, criterion-related, and construct validity is now provided
Factorial validity analysis to strength the test's validity was undertaken
Two new composite scores (motor-reduced visual perception and visual-motor integration) were developed to facilitate diagnosis
The ages at which the test can be administered were extended to include 10-year-olds

Of all the tests of visual perception and visual-motor integration, DTVP-2 is unique in that its scores are reliable at the .8 or .9 levels for all age groups. Standardized on 1,972 children from 12 states, the DTVP-2 yields scores for both pure visual perception (no motor response) and visual-motor integration ability, and has been proven to be unbiased relative to race, gender, and handedness.
